Best organic veg box deliveries
Veg boxes deliver seasonal fruit and vegetables, weekly or fortnightly, ranging from certified-organic schemes to food-waste boxes that rescue surplus produce. They are priced per box rather than per portion, so we compare the cheapest full-price box and what you get for it.

How veg boxes work
A veg box delivers a selection of seasonal fruit and vegetables on a weekly or fortnightly schedule. Some are fixed each week, others let you swap items, and most can be paused or skipped. They are priced per box rather than per portion, with sizes usually pitched at one to two, three to four, or five-plus people.
Organic versus food-waste boxes
There are two distinct types, and the difference matters. Certified-organic schemes like Riverford and Abel & Cole guarantee organic produce, mostly UK and seasonal, and both are B Corps - you pay a premium for that. Food-waste boxes like Oddbox rescue surplus and cosmetically imperfect produce direct from growers; they are cheaper and cut waste, but are not organic.
What they cost, and why delivery matters
Cheapest full-price boxes start around £12 (Oddbox), £14.50 (Abel & Cole) and £16.50 (Riverford). Delivery is where the value shifts: Riverford delivers free on its own vans, Abel & Cole charges around £3.50 with a minimum order, and Oddbox adds £1.99. So the cheapest box on paper is not always the cheapest once it is on your doorstep.
How to choose a veg box
- Do you need organic? If yes, Riverford or Abel & Cole. If you care more about price and waste, Oddbox.
- Coverage - Oddbox covers only selected postcodes; the organic schemes reach most of mainland Britain, with gaps in Scotland and remote areas.
- Flexibility - check you can swap items, skip weeks and add extras. Abel & Cole has the widest organic grocery add-on range.
- Waste - a box you do not get through is money wasted, so match the size honestly to how much you cook.
