Sourcing: UK recipe development; carbon-neutral target for 2030.

Gousto is the UK's home-grown rival to HelloFresh and offers the largest weekly menu of any meal kit, usually around 75 recipes including roughly 20 vegan options. Like HelloFresh, the ingredients come pre-portioned with recipe cards.

It is the most flexible of the big kits. You can order for one to five people, take a single box without committing to a subscription, and skip or cancel freely. At a four-recipe box for four it is the cheapest mainstream kit per portion, though small and single-person boxes are expensive per head and a £3.99 delivery charge applies after the first box.

It is a strong default pick for most households, especially anyone who wants maximum recipe choice or the option to order without a standing subscription.

Our hands-on notes: [To add - first-hand experience: portion sizes, how it cooked/tasted, packaging, and whether we would reorder.]

Refer-a-friend

Refer a friend: £20 Gousto credit per signup (expires in about three months, with a monthly cap); your friend gets a large discount on their first box.

Frequently asked questions

Is Gousto cheaper than HelloFresh?

At larger boxes they are very close, and Gousto often edges it on price per portion. Both add a delivery charge and both lean on first-box discounts.

Can you order Gousto without a subscription?

Yes. Unlike some rivals, Gousto lets you place a one-off box without signing up to a recurring plan.
